Shucos Magi, the Fruitvale shucos vendor Maria Rodas has run for years, has opened its first brick-and-mortar at 3329 Foothill Blvd. in East Oakland.

Rodas — known to regulars as Magi — built her following on shucos, the Guatemalan loaded hot dog, at East Oakland markets before taking the storefront with her family. The room serves a full Guatemalan and Mexican menu — shucos, mulitas, tacos, quesabirria and more — and is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily except Tuesday, per The Oaklandside and sister site Berkeleyside. The Oaklandside returned to the opening in a July 10 roundup that grouped Shucos Magi among the East Bay's notable June debuts.

The address puts Shucos Magi on the Foothill Boulevard commercial corridor, a mixed retail-and-residential stretch of East Oakland that has drawn a run of first-time restaurateurs this year. The opening follows a familiar East Bay arc: a market or pop-up vendor with a neighborhood following converting it into a permanent address.
