True Burger closes its Broadway location after 11 years amid Oakland's challenging retail climate, with Grand Avenue remaining as its only Oakland site.

True Burger has closed its Broadway location after 11 years, leaving the Grand Avenue site as the chain's sole remaining Oakland restaurant.

The burger spot at 4101 Broadway shut down in June 2026, according to Berkeleyside. "Like many independent Oakland businesses, we've had a lot of challenges, but the good news is, we're still here and proud to call Oakland home," the company posted on Instagram announcing the closure.

The closure reflects a tough retail environment in Oakland's core. The city's retail vacancy rate hit 12.9% in Q1 2026 — the second-highest among East Bay submarkets — while downtown corridor asking rents fell nearly 3% year-over-year, according to commercial real estate reports.

True Burger's Grand Avenue location remains open, continuing the brand's presence in Oakland. The Broadway closure joins a wave of East Bay restaurant shutdowns this summer, including Line 51 Brewing and The Townhouse in Emeryville.
