SFGATE clocked another year of brutal rideshare surges leaving Outside Lands on Friday night. With the festival running through Sunday, here's how to get out of Golden Gate Park without paying for it — free Muni, four taxi stands, and a late-night express to BART.

If you tried to hail an Uber or Lyft out of Golden Gate Park after Charli XCX closed Friday night, you already know the damage. SFGATE — which chronicles the Outside Lands rideshare surge every August as a public service — reported prices spiking into bank-breaking territory as 75,000 people looked for a way home at once. With the festival running through Sunday, August 9, here's how to skip the surge for the rest of the weekend.

The free move: Muni. Your festival wristband is an all-day Muni pass on the day of your ticket — any line, not just the park routes. Board through any door, don't tap your Clipper, and you don't need to flash the wristband unless an SFMTA fare inspector asks. SFMTA is running extra N Judah trains 3 p.m. to midnight daily along the full route.

Getting to BART fast. The 5X Fulton Express runs late each night from Fulton and 30th Avenue straight to Civic Center BART with no stops in between. Earlier in the day, the 5R Fulton Rapid adds service (roughly 2:30–8 p.m.) between Montgomery BART and Fulton & 30th. The 38-Geary, about four blocks from the north exits, is the pressure-release valve when the 5 lines back up.

Taxis and bikes. Four temporary taxi stands run from 9 a.m. Friday through 2 a.m. Monday: Fulton at 24th–25th, Fulton at 28th–29th, Irving at 26th–27th, and Larkin between Hayes and Grove. Lyft is capping its own surge at 200% this year and has bike valets at JFK Drive (North Gate) and MLK Jr. Drive (South Gate).

If you've got two options: leave during the headliner's last two songs while the pickup zones are still empty, or wait the crowd out with a beer — the transit lines thin fast after the first wave clears. The one thing not worth doing is standing at the rideshare zone watching the price climb.
