Outside Lands runs Friday through Sunday in Golden Gate Park, with Charli XCX, The Strokes and Rufus Du Sol closing the three nights on the Lands End stage. Gates open at 11 a.m., three-day passes are sold out, and the west end of the park has been closed to cars since Thursday night.

The hard part of Outside Lands has never been the lineup. It's the hour on either end of it — getting to a park whose western half has been closed to cars since Thursday night, and getting back out of it at 10 p.m. alongside everyone else who had the same idea.

Whatever you're holding is a wristband, it's nontransferable, and it works once. There is no re-entry. Leave the park and your day is over. Plan accordingly, and read the rest of this in the order it's going to matter to you.

Who's closing each night

The three nights all end on the Lands End stage: Charli XCX at 8:40 p.m. Friday, The Strokes at 8:35 p.m. Saturday, and Rüfüs Du Sol at 8:25 p.m. Sunday.

Around them, Friday carries Turnstile, Modest Mouse, Clipse, Tinashe, Wet Leg, Labrinth, Geese and Sierra Ferrell. Saturday brings The xx, Djo, Lucy Dacus, Ethel Cain and PinkPantheress. Sunday runs Death Cab for Cutie, Empire of the Sun, Baby Keem, Mariah the Scientist, The Temper Trap and Lane 8.

Sets are spread across eight stages — Lands End, Twin Peaks, Sutro, Panhandle, SOMA, Dolores', Duboce Triangle and Cocktail Magic. Full stage-by-stage times live on the festival's schedule page and in its app. Pull them up before you lose signal, which you will.

Getting there

Your wristband is a Muni pass. This is the most useful fact of the weekend and the one most people never use. SFMTA says the wristband covers all-day Muni fare on the day it's valid — every line except cable cars, and not only for trips to and from the park. Board through any door. Don't tap your Clipper card and don't buy a ticket; just show the wristband if an inspector asks for proof of payment.

Muni is adding service to match. Extra N Judah trains run from 3 p.m. to midnight, and extra 5R Fulton Rapid buses from 2:30 to 8 p.m. — though the added 5R trips short-turn, running Montgomery BART to Fulton & 30th Avenue only rather than the full route.

Getting home is the part worth planning now. Each night a 5X Fulton Express runs from 10 to 11:30 p.m., picking up at Fulton & 30th Avenue and dropping at Civic Center BART at UN Plaza. BART is offering free parking at its stations after 3 p.m. Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday.

If someone is driving you, read this twice. SFMTA has designated pickup and drop-off blackout zones where citations will be issued: Friday and Saturday from 9 to 11:30 p.m. and Sunday from 8:30 to 11 p.m., covering Lincoln Way between 25th and 41st avenues, Fulton Street between 26th and 37th, and the numbered avenues from 26th to 37th between Fulton and Cabrillo. The recommended alternatives sit a few blocks out: the north side of Irving between 25th and 27th, the north side of Balboa between 30th and 31st, and the west side of 30th Avenue between Balboa and Anza.

There is no official general parking. There is a bike valet and Bay Wheels on site, and a festival shuttle from Bill Graham Civic Auditorium at $37.75 one way.

The closures. Vehicle access to the park's west end — every road from Transverse Drive to the Great Highway — shut at 8 p.m. Thursday and stays shut until 11 p.m. Sunday. JFK Drive between Transverse and 36th Avenue closed the week before the festival and stays closed through the Wednesday after it.

Getting in

There are two main gates: North Gate at 26th & Fulton and South Gate at Martin Luther King Jr. & Metson. The ADA entrance is at 36th Avenue & JFK Drive, and the Sutro, Twin Peaks and Lands End stages each have elevated viewing platforms.

Will call is at Marx Meadow, 25th Avenue & Fulton, open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and until 8 p.m. Sunday. Gates open at 11 a.m. daily, music starts at noon and ends at 10 p.m.

On bags: clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags are fine, as is a small non-clear purse or fanny pack up to 6" x 8" x 3", and a hydration pack under 2.5 liters with a single pocket. Empty reusable bottles are allowed and there are refill stations throughout the grounds. Bring one.

Left at the gate: alcohol, glass and cans, coolers, chairs, umbrellas, tents, hammocks, professional cameras and recording gear, drones, selfie sticks, skateboards, bikes, instruments, totems, and pets other than service animals. Glow sticks are out; glow bracelets and necklaces are in. Prescription medication is fine with matching ID.

The festival is all ages, and children under 2 get in free without a wristband. Everything inside is cashless except Grass Lands, which still takes cash and has ATMs.

What to wear

The National Weather Service has the park at a high near 65 degrees Friday, 67 Saturday and 68 Sunday, with overnight lows of 57 to 58 and southwest winds running 7 to 13 mph.

Translated into festival terms: it will be genuinely pleasant at 4 p.m. and cold by the time the headliner walks out. Dress for the afternoon you want, then add the jacket you're willing to carry for six hours to get it.

What to eat

Taste of the Bay Area is running 100 Bay Area restaurants across 53 cuisines. The additions worth going out of your way for are the old guard: Original Joe's, Perry's and Balboa Cafe are all in this year, with Original Joe's bringing prime rib dip sandwiches and spicy rigatoni.

New this year is the Snack Series — more than 20 restaurants serving snack-sized versions of their signature dishes, everything priced at $16 or under. That's the play if you'd rather eat four things than one.

Wine Lands returns at McLaren Pass with Cakebread Cellars, Auteur, Merriam and Seppi, plus Clos du Val, Ashes & Diamonds, Kosta Browne, Roederer Estate and Scribe pouring in the VIP reserve. Beer Lands adds The Leopard Mark and Wondrous to a Northern California roster that includes Bear Republic, Cellarmaker, Ghost Town, North Coast and Sierra Nevada.

Amazon Music is streaming the weekend across two channels, starting at 3 p.m. each day — on the Amazon Music app, its Twitch and Prime Video channels, and the Amazon Live channel on Fire TV and Samsung TV Plus. Friday's stream carries Charli XCX, Turnstile, Modest Mouse, Clipse and Wet Leg. Saturday has The Strokes, The xx, Djo and Lucy Dacus. Sunday runs Death Cab for Cutie, Empire of the Sun, Baby Keem and Lane 8.
