Hardly Strictly Bluegrass takes over Golden Gate Park Friday, October 2 through Sunday, October 4, 2026 — free, no ticket required, same as it's ever been. Gates open at 11 a.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday; music runs until 7 p.m. all three days across Hellman Hollow, Lindley Meadow, and Marx Meadows in the park's western half. For out-of-towners, which neighborhood you book shapes the whole weekend.

The entrance that matters most. The festival designates exactly four entry points — JFK Drive & Transverse Drive; Fulton Street & 30th Avenue; JFK Drive & 36th Avenue; and the South Polo Field at Middle Drive & Metson Road — and is explicit: those four only. For most people walking in from a hotel, Fulton Street & 30th Avenue is the natural front door. It drops you directly into the main festival corridor without a long internal hike across the park.

Where to stay. Two neighborhoods put you within easy walking distance of Fulton & 30th. The Inner Richmond — Clement Street and the Geary Boulevard corridor along the park's north edge — is the closer call, roughly 15 minutes on foot. The NoPa/Panhandle area around Divisadero is a touch farther east; budget 20–25 minutes. The Inner Sunset (Irving Street, south side) works but puts you on the opposite end of the grounds from the main stages, so factor in extra walking time once you're inside. The Metro Hotel is the name that surfaces most often in local discussions about HSB proximity; confirm its current October rates and exact address directly — the neighborhood books out weeks ahead of the festival.

Do not drive. Per festival organizers, JFK Drive through the festival zone closes during the event, as do 30th and 36th Avenues between Fulton and JFK. Street parking in the Richmond and Sunset fills fast on festival mornings. The 5-Fulton bus runs the park's entire north edge and deposits you at the Fulton entrance. From the Inner Sunset, the N-Judah brings you in from the south.

One timing note: Bag checks and body scanners are in use at all four entrances per the festival's own security FAQ. On Saturday morning, when gates open at 9 a.m., the entry line moves slowly. Get there early or give yourself a 20-minute buffer.

Early October is peak hotel season in San Francisco with or without the festival. If you're arriving October 1st, book now — Inner Richmond and NoPa rooms at walking distance fill well before September.
