The Oaklandside first reported the opening Aug. 4 in its Nosh new-restaurants column by Momo Chang, which framed the room as one of two Vietnamese broken-rice spots debuting in the East Bay.

The restaurant is a partnership between Geoffrey Deetz and Quynh Nhu Nguyen. Deetz previously co-owned Temple Club in Oakland, per Oaklandside. The space seats 26 and runs fast-casual, according to the same report.

Cơm tấm — the fractured grains of rice long served in southern Vietnam — sits at the center of the menu, and the name Broken Dreams is a play on it. Menu pricing was not detailed in the initial report.
