Three opening ceremonies across two days kick off the 2026 World Cup. Mexico City's happened this afternoon; the one Bay Area fans actually care about — US vs. Paraguay in LA — is Friday evening.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup opened Thursday in Mexico City: Shakira and Burna Boy debuted the tournament's official song, "Dai Dai," at Estadio Azteca before Mexico faced South Africa. If you missed it, two more opening ceremonies land Friday in Toronto and Los Angeles.

For Bay Area fans, the one to watch is in LA. Friday, June 12, the opening ceremony begins at 4:30 p.m. PT at SoFi Stadium (1011 Stadium Drive, Inglewood), 90 minutes before the United States plays Paraguay at 6 p.m. PT. Performing: Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, LISA, Rema, and Tyla. Earlier Friday, Toronto gets Alanis Morissette, Michael Bublé, Alessia Cara, and Jessie Reyez before Canada takes on Bosnia-Herzegovina at noon PT — a match the Bay Area's Bosnian community will care a lot about.

How to watch: Fox and FS1 have all three ceremonies. Tubi streams it free; also available on the FOX One and Fox Sports apps. Spanish broadcast on Telemundo.

SoFi is a six-hour drive from SF — this is a couch-or-bar watch. Find a soccer bar with the game on by 4:30 p.m. if you want the full ceremony; the spectacle is worth it. The US group-stage matches at Levi's Stadium come later.

One more date worth flagging: the World Cup Final is Sunday, July 19, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Shakira headlines halftime again, with Madonna and BTS co-headlining, curated by Coldplay's Chris Martin.
