On Saturday, August 1, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., private and shared edible gardens across Oakland's Temescal neighborhood will open to the public for a free, self-guided tour organized by the Temescal Open Edible Gardens Committee, which is fiscally sponsored by Sidewalk Trees & Gardens, an Oakland 501(c)(3).

There is no single address. The event is distributed across multiple gardens throughout the neighborhood, and specific locations are only released to people who register. RSVP for free via Eventbrite and the organizers will email you a digital map and garden guide before Saturday. Walk-ins are technically allowed — admission is not gated — but without the map you won't know where to go. Registration takes about thirty seconds and costs nothing.

Hours are staggered: roughly half the gardens are open 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m., the other half 1:00–4:00 p.m., per the Eventbrite listing. A single morning pass won't cover everything. Organizers recommend comfortable shoes, water, sun protection, and a tote bag for any plant samples or seeds you pick up, per temescalopengardens.org. No parking advisories or street closures have been announced for the event. Rockridge BART (Orange Line) puts you roughly ten minutes on foot from the heart of Temescal, and AC Transit's 51B runs the length of Telegraph Avenue through the neighborhood.

The move: RSVP before Friday night so the map arrives before you leave the house. Arrive at 10:00 a.m. for the first garden wave, break for lunch on Telegraph — Cholita Linda and Homeroom are both within a few blocks — then come back for the 1:00 p.m. wave. Two hours is enough to hit both halves if you keep moving.
