Early-week projections had Outside Lands' weekend hitting the mid-70s. The freshest National Weather Service forecast for Golden Gate Park has trended cooler — highs in the upper 60s, a marine layer each evening, and a coastal flood advisory now posted. The real upgrade over 2024: the wind finally lays off.

The 18th Outside Lands runs today through Sunday, Aug. 7–9, in Golden Gate Park — and if you saw the warm forecast earlier this week, adjust your expectations before you pack.

Earlier projections ran optimistic. NWS meteorologist Matt Mehle told SFGATE that daytime highs could reach the mid-60s to mid-70s, with Saturday flirting with 76. But the freshest National Weather Service point forecast for the park, updated late Wednesday, has trended cooler: a high near 65 Friday, 67 Saturday, and 68 Sunday, with overnight lows in the mid-to-upper 50s. In other words, a classic marine-layer San Francisco August, not a heat wave.

The genuinely good news is the wind. NWS has it at a mild 7 to 13 mph out of the southwest all weekend — a world away from 2024, when the weather service coordinated with the city over gusts hitting stages and knocking eucalyptus branches loose. This year the trees stay put.

The catch, as ever, is the fog. Clouds are expected to fill in each evening, right as the headliners take the Lands End stage, and a Coastal Flood Advisory is posted through Aug. 13. Mehle's advice, per SFGATE: layers, water, maybe a hand fan for the afternoon. "Only because it is San Francisco, people should be prepared to bring a jacket," he said.

Two logistics that haven't changed: your wristband covers all-day Muni fare, and every tier is sold out.

The move: dress for the afternoon you hoped for and the evening you'll actually get. A light layer for the low-70s peak that never quite arrives, and a real jacket in the bag for when the fog beats the headliner to the stage.
