"Not Your Mama's Drag Brunch" debuts Saturday, Aug. 22 at The Napper Tandy on 24th Street — hosted by Nitrix Oxide, with a four-queen lineup and a $5 hold on your seat.

There's a new drag brunch coming to the Mission, and it's setting up shop somewhere you might not expect: the back of an Irish pub. "Not Your Mama's Drag Brunch" debuts Saturday, Aug. 22, at The Napper Tandy, 3200 24th Street (at Shotwell), a few blocks east of the 24th St Mission BART station. Doors and seating open at noon, the show starts at 1 p.m., and the whole thing runs to 4. It's 21+, and per the organizer there's a $5 cover to hold your reservation.

The host is Nitrix Oxide, who's also organizing the event, and the pitch is a rotating cast of newer Bay Area performers rather than the same circuit regulars. The announced lineup so far: They Themma, Xanni Phantum, and Michellyn Starr, with Nitrix emceeing. If the names don't ring a bell, that's sort of the point — the organizer is billing this as "bizarre, comedic, and rising" talent you haven't already caught six times at other brunches.

The genuinely unusual part is the kitchen. Napper Tandy is a longtime 24th Street Irish bar, so the "brunch" here is an Irish brunch menu — a different animal from the bottomless-mimosa-and-avocado-toast template most drag brunches run on. Come hungry and curious.

The tip: that $5 is only a hold, and 21+ pub rooms like this fill by word of mouth fast for a first outing — grab the reservation online rather than walking up, and get there for the noon seating so you're not eating standing. Refunds are available up to seven days out if your Saturday falls apart.

If you've got two hours: noon seating, order off the Irish menu before the room gets slammed, and stay through Nitrix's set at 1.
