Kitchen Commons, a new culinary supply store, café, and community event space, is set to open this fall on Clement Street in San Francisco, replacing the long-standing Spanish Table.

Kitchen Commons, a new culinary supply store, café, and community event space, is set to open this fall at 130 Clement St in San Francisco's Inner Richmond district. The establishment, which secured an on-sale beer and wine license (Type 41), plans to offer cooking classes and host community events, stepping into the space formerly occupied by the beloved specialty grocer, The Spanish Table.

Operated by Kitchen Commons LLC, the venture is spearheaded by co-founders Connor Bruce, a former server and bartender at Nopalito, who later worked as a chef at Tahona Mercado, and Jeff Hanak, co-owner of Liholiho Yacht Club and Good Good Culture Club. Bruce, in an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle on May 8, 2026, articulated the vision, stating, "It was important that this space not just be a retail space... We wanted a place where that knowledge could be shared." Hanak, who identified the opportunity on Clement Street, told the San Francisco Standard on May 7, 2026, "Given the mix of businesses on Clement Street, I thought this was a good opportunity to explore a business based on hospitality and craft." The company registered with the City of San Francisco as a food services business (NAICS 7220–7229) for its 130 Clement St location with a start date of February 19, 2026, according to OpenGovUS.

The space at 130 Clement St was home to The Spanish Table from 2006 until its closure in late 2025 amid eviction proceedings from its landlord, according to reporting by the San Francisco Chronicle. While a separate Kitchen Commons LLC business registration lists 250 Ninth Ave with a start date of February 19, 2026, its functional purpose remains unconfirmed; mail for the entity is directed to the Clement Street address. The new establishment's anticipated opening reflects a trend of multi-functional culinary spaces emerging in the Bay Area, betting on community engagement and diverse offerings beyond traditional retail or restaurant models to sustain themselves in a challenging market.
