The owners of the Hotel Utah Saloon — Utah Saloon LLC, registered at 500 Fourth Street since 2004 — are listing the 1908 SoMa institution for $235,000 and say they want a buyer who will keep it a live music venue.

The Hotel Utah Saloon, the SoMa live music bar at 500 Fourth Street built in 1908, is for sale at an asking price of $235,000. Co-owner Andrea Cochran confirmed to SFGATE that she, Mohamed Bacchus, and Damian Samuel are looking to hand off the bar after more than 20 years running it — city records show Utah Saloon LLC registered the business on January 16, 2004. The sale covers the bar operation only; the hotel in the same building is under separate ownership.

"At some point, people start thinking about retiring and moving on and doing something different," Cochran told SFGATE. "It's just a feeling that a music venue probably periodically needs revitalization and new people."

The owners say they're taking their time and hope to close by year's end. Their ask for a buyer: "I think the fantasy would be to find someone who really values it for its cultural contributions," Cochran said. "We'd hope that it would remain a live music venue."

The bar holds an active California ABC liquor license. The building was designated San Francisco Landmark No. 282 in November 2018 — a designation that attaches to the property, not the operating business, meaning whoever takes over the bar lease inherits the room's century-old bones but not the building's deed.
