The Great Northern's Night Vision event series returns for a second edition on Friday, July 10 — LA darkwave, Seattle noise-punk, and local synth support, all for $11 advance.

The Great Northern brings back its Night Vision event series for a second edition: Friday, July 10, doors 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., at 119 Utah St. in SoMa. Tickets are $11 advance on Eventbrite. 21+ only. No refunds.

The bill runs dark. Chalk Teeth co-headline — an LA darkwave trio who dropped their debut single "Struck" in January and have a full LP in the pipeline; if you haven't heard them yet, July 10 is a reasonable place to start. Co-headlining is Nail Polish, the Seattle noise-punk project led by James David Scheall, with a history of twitchy, abrasive West Coast touring that earns a loud room. Local support comes from Tropisphere, a cinematic synth trio from SF formed in 2023, plus DJ Mashi Mashi to fill between live sets. The venue describes the evening as "a collision of dark, punk and cyber" — which, at $11, is either exactly your thing or the clearest possible signal that it isn't.

At that ticket price, Night Vision undercuts most comparable SF multi-band bills by several dollars. The Great Northern's 80,000-watt VOID Acoustic system is one of the better ways to hear bands loud in this city, and five hours is a real amount of music.

The move: Rideshare it — parking on that block of SoMa is a project. Get there at 9; this is a long night with a lot of sets.
