The Marin County Free Library runs a twice-monthly writing session that earns its name: show up, introduce yourself in ten minutes, write for an hour, done. No critiques. No read-alouds. No margin notes handed back. The next one is Wednesday, July 1, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Civic Center branch in San Rafael.

The structure is tight enough to actually be useful: 4:00–4:10, quick check-in (name, what you're working on); 4:10–5:10, sixty minutes of heads-down writing; 5:10–5:30, an optional group recap you can skip entirely. The venue is worth the trip in its own right: 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael — the Marin County Civic Center, Frank Lloyd Wright's last major commission, all curving concrete and gold dome.
