Joyride Pizza is moving to pour at 411 Valencia St. The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control took a new on-sale application for the address on July 31, filed by Samovar Tea Mission LLC — the ownership entity behind the Joyride name on that block. City food-business records class the application as a Type 41 license, the on-sale beer-and-wine permit issued to a bona fide eating place. That is the license that lets a pizzeria put a short beer-and-wine list next to the pies without becoming a bar.

The applicant is the tell. Joyride Pizza — the local square-pizza brand known for its Detroit-style pan pies — runs on the Samovar tea group's LLCs across the city. The City's registry ties Joyride to Samovar Tea Lounge Yerba Buena LLC at 730 Howard St., registered back in 2012; to Joyride 685 Market LLC downtown, from 2022; and to Joyride Pier 1 LLC on the Embarcadero, from 2023. The Mission address sits under Samovar Tea Mission LLC, which has carried the Joyride Pizza registration at 411 Valencia since April 2014.

That decade-old registration matters: this is a licensing move at an address the group has long held, not a cold debut. What the July filing signals is a bet on beer and wine on a corridor built for it. Valencia Street now runs a seven-day entertainment zone, and the bars along it have reported real sales lifts since the zone expanded. A Type 41 is the modest version of that bet — table service, a few taps and bottles, no full spirits.

An ABC application is a lead, not a pour; on-sale licenses run through a protest window and posting period before anything is approved. Neither a target date for beer-and-wine service nor a seat count for the Valencia room is set in the public record yet. What the filing confirms is the direction: the Samovar-Joyride group wants a glass on the table at 411 Valencia.
