The 12,000-square-foot tasting room shut June 29 with little explanation, part of a “right-sizing” by parent company Constellation Brands.
Ballast Point Brewing closed its San Francisco taproom on Monday, June 29, after five years in Mission Bay. The 12,000-square-foot tasting room, which opened in 2021 as part of the Mission Rock development near Pier 48, posted a brief announcement on Instagram that day offering no detailed reason for the shutdown.
A spokesperson for Constellation Brands — the beer giant that sold Ballast Point in 2021 but remains a stakeholder — attributed the closure to “right-sizing our cost structure based on recent craft trends.” The company did not disclose how many employees were affected.
The taproom was one of the brewery’s largest California locations, with a full kitchen and bar seating. Its exact address is listed variably as 10101 Marina Point Drive or within the 804 Beach Street corridor. No California Alcoholic Beverage Control license surrender filings for the location had been posted as of late June.
Ballast Point’s other Bay Area taproom, in the East Bay’s Alameda, remains open.
