The Oakland taproom near Jack London Square confirmed July 19 — World Cup final day — as its last day of service, ending a run that began in 2013. In Berkeley, Kuboba Spot also closed for good this month.
Line 51 Brewing has confirmed July 19 as its final day of service at 303 Castro St. in Oakland's Acorn Industrial neighborhood near Jack London Square — and set a date to match the occasion. The taproom, which the brewery has operated under the name "the Terminal" since moving to the space in 2020, will pour through World Cup final day, then close for good. The brewery itself has been running since 2013, making this a 13-year run for one of Oakland's established craft operations.
"Without all of you this ride could've never taken place, and we appreciate that," reads a farewell post on Line 51's Instagram, signed with an invitation to come raise a pint any Thursday through Sunday until the final. The post offers no explanation for the closure, and none has been made public.
Speculation that Line 51 was in trouble circulated since a "building for sale" sign appeared at 303 Castro in June. The official Instagram announcement this week put a date on what the sign implied.
In Berkeley, Kuboba Spot — the Filipino-inspired empanada and boba restaurant at 2618 Telegraph Ave. — closed June 20 after four years in its storefront. The business grew from preorders for friends and family, then pop-ups and catering, before opening its brick-and-mortar in July 2022. "We have been incredibly blessed to be surrounded by such a kind, welcoming, and supportive community," the operators wrote in a farewell on Instagram. "Whether you visited us from near or far, your encouragement, loyalty, and friendship have meant more to us than words can express."
