Plot & Pantry is hosting an intimate hands-on fermentation workshop June 27 in Dogpatch — make sauerkraut and a seasonal vegetable ferment to take home, no experience required.

Plot & Pantry, a new SF urban homesteading project, is running a hands-on fermentation class on Saturday, June 27 at 555 20th St in Dogpatch. Doors open at 9:20 AM; the workshop runs 9:30 AM to noon.

You'll make two things: classic sauerkraut and a customizable seasonal vegetable ferment, each packed into glass jars to take home. All ingredients and supplies are included. There's an optional tasting of prepared ferments and a walk-through of different vessels, techniques, and living cultures. Beginner-friendly, ages 18+, in-person only.

The organizer is pitching this as the first in a series built specifically for apartment dwellers — people who want to learn fermentation, pantry-making, and slow seasonal cooking but have no garden, no mentor, and no desire to watch another YouTube spiral. That framing is real and the format backs it up: space is intentionally capped to keep it intimate, and the session ends with you holding actual live food you made yourself.
