Watch party organizers are adding a fourth outdoor screen stretching north to St. James Street, with city approval targeted before Mexico vs. Czechia on June 24. The USMNT Round of 32 at Levi's on July 1 is the real deadline driving the expansion.
San Pedro Square is adding a fourth outdoor screen to its World Cup setup — one big enough to stretch from San Pedro Street north all the way to St. James — with organizers gunning for city approval before Mexico's next group-stage match. "The goal is to have that approved and ready for next week, when Mexico plays on Wednesday," San Jose Sports Authority Executive Director John Poch told NBC Bay Area.
That Wednesday is June 24, when Mexico faces Czechia — kickoff 6 PM PT. The screen permit is still pending, so confirm before you make the drive downtown; if it comes through, the official watch party at 87 N. San Pedro Street, San Jose, will have more room than it's ever had.
The expansion is a direct response to crowds that overwhelmed the current three-screen configuration: both the Mexico and USA group-stage matches drew more than 25,000 people downtown, packing every restaurant and spilling into the streets.
The USMNT Round of 32 on July 1 at 5 PM PT at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara — opponent TBD after group play wraps around June 27-28 — is the larger pressure point organizers are building toward. Tickets to the stadium game itself start around $60 in the supporter sections (lottery-based through US Soccer). The watch party downtown is free.
Getting there: VTA light rail runs every 15 minutes on match days with service extended two hours post-match. Levi's Stadium parking runs $70–$175+; for the July 1 game, Caltrain is not running late-night extended service (unlike the earlier June match days), so factor that in if you're coming from the Peninsula.
