The official U.S. Soccer watch party for Wednesday's Round of 32 is free, but prior USA matches filled San Pedro Square to capacity — police shut down streets and turned fans away. More than 20,000 have already RSVP'd.

Wednesday is a significant date in South Bay soccer: USA plays Bosnia & Herzegovina in the World Cup Round of 32 at 5:00 p.m. PT at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara — the USMNT's first home knockout match since 1994. San Pedro Square Market in downtown San Jose is the officially designated U.S. Soccer watch party for the match, and as of this weekend, more than 20,000 people have already RSVP'd.

The RSVP is free. Going without one is a gamble. When the U.S. beat Australia in the group stage on June 19, the venue reached capacity and San Jose police shut down surrounding streets, turning away fans who showed up late. Organizers have since added a fourth outdoor screen — a 450-square-foot panel stretching north to St. James Street — to the existing 27-foot main screen on San Pedro Street and two others along Sharks Way. The full setup now covers several city blocks. Still: 20,000 RSVPs for a venue that was already at its limit a week ago.

Reserve your spot at sjearthquakes.com/soccercelebration. San Pedro Square Market is at 87 N San Pedro St, downtown San Jose. Caltrain to Diridon Station is about a 10-minute walk north; VTA light rail to the Convention Center stop drops you closer. Parking around the market disappears fast on big match days — transit is the move.

The Soccer Celebration has run since June 11, covering all 104 tournament matches through July 19 with food, drink vendors, and a free-admission, all-ages setup. More than 350,000 fans came through the venue during the group stage. Bar space inside the market, including the Old Wagon Saloon's outdoor VIP section, is already booked solid for Wednesday, according to NBC Bay Area.

If the venue caps again, the Bay Area Host Committee has overflow watch parties across the region for July 1: Mission Rock, Salesforce Park, and PIER 39 in SF; Raimondi Park in Oakland. But Wednesday's energy is going to be in San Jose.

Get there early.
