Paddle under the full moon at the Berkeley Marina with UC Berkeley Recreation & Wellbeing's guided kayaking event this August, offering a unique night-time view of the Bay.
Experience the Berkeley Marina after dark with the UC Berkeley Recreation & Wellbeing's Full Moon Paddle, a guided kayaking adventure scheduled for Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. This Level 1 event offers a unique chance to witness the full moon rise over the Berkeley Hills while paddling on the San Francisco Bay.
The adventure launches from the UC Aquatic Center, located at 124 University Ave, Berkeley, CA, within the Berkeley Marina. Participants will glide across the water in a group, taking in the serene night sky and city lights from a new perspective. Wear layers, as it can get chilly on the water after sunset. Waivers are required for all participants.
Tickets are $60 for non-students and $30 for UC Berkeley students, per person. While the July full moon paddle is currently waitlisted, the August 27th event is open for registration. Secure your spot and find more details on the UC Berkeley RecWell kayaking program page.
Insider Tip: Parking at the Berkeley Marina can be extensive, but arrive early to ensure a good spot near the Aquatic Center, as evenings can draw crowds to the waterfront. This experience is a relatively accessible way to enjoy the Bay at night without needing extensive kayaking experience. \
