A small black short-haired dog named Hira (pronounced "Hee-ra") bolted from her owners at the intersection of Gough and Lombard around 4:50 PM on April 11th. She was last spotted near Polk and Washington, heading into the Nob Hill area.
Here's what you need to know if you're out and about:
- Size: Small to medium, about 24 pounds
- Appearance: Black, short-haired, wearing a pink harness
- Temperament: Very friendly, responds to treats and food
- Important: She's fast and flighty — don't chase her, as that could spook her further
- ID: Microchipped and wearing a collar with phone numbers
If you spot Hira, try luring her with food rather than grabbing at her. Scared dogs on city streets can bolt into traffic, and the last thing anyone wants is a worse outcome from a well-meaning sprint.
This is one of those moments where the city works best — not through some municipal program or a six-figure nonprofit grant, but through regular people keeping their eyes open on a walk home. No bureaucracy required.
