If you're missing a dog in the Mission Bay area, now's the time to check your leash situation.

A dog was spotted wandering near Spark Social SF — the popular outdoor food and drink spot along the waterfront — and appears to be lost. Details on the breed and size are limited, but if your four-legged roommate didn't come home today, this might be your lead.

Look, we don't typically cover lost pet reports. But in a city where a studio apartment costs more than a small-town mortgage and half the population seems to cope by adopting a dog, this hits close to home for a lot of people. San Francisco is a dog town, and Mission Bay — with its wide sidewalks, waterfront paths, and clusters of young professionals — has one of the highest concentrations of pups per capita in the city. Losing a dog down there, between construction sites, busy intersections, and the occasional Muni rumble, is genuinely nerve-wracking.

Here's what you can do if you think this might be your dog — or if you want to help:

  • Check local social media groups for Mission Bay, SoMa, and Dogpatch. Lost pet posts spread fast.
  • Contact SF Animal Care & Control at (415) 554-6364. They handle stray pickups across the city.
  • Swing by Spark Social SF and ask around. The staff and regulars there are generally solid people who'd keep an eye out.
  • Make sure your dog is microchipped. Seriously. If this situation reminds you that yours isn't, go fix that this week.

We'll update if the owner is found. In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled if you're walking the Embarcadero or hanging around Mission Bay. Reuniting a dog with its human is one of the few things this city can do that doesn't require a ballot measure or a $2 billion bond.
