Except Webb didn't get that memo, because that's not how a start works. He takes the ball every fifth day and competes whether the roster around him is buying, selling, or just running out the string. There's something worth watching in that — the ace as the last honest man on a team that's already looking at next spring. He's the reason this line exists where it does.
