A Midnight Mystery: Lost German Wirehaired Pointer Needs His People
Somewhere in San Francisco, someone is missing a very good boy — and we'd like to help fix that.
A young dog, believed to be a German Wirehaired Pointer around a year old, was found roaming the city around midnight recently. He was clean, clearly cared for, and obviously someone's pet — but had no collar and, after a trip to the vet, no microchip either.
Let's pause on that last part for a second. If you have a dog, get it microchipped. It costs somewhere between $25 and $75, takes about five seconds, and is the single easiest thing you can do to make sure a lost pet finds its way home. Collars slip off. Tags fall. A chip is forever. This is one of those rare cases where a tiny bit of personal responsibility goes a very long way.
The good news: this pup landed with good people. He's reportedly living his best temporary life on chicken scraps and cuddles while his rescuers try to track down his owner. They're doing this the right way too — requiring photos or unique identifying details before handing him over, which is exactly the kind of verification you want when a beautiful purebred-looking dog is up for grabs.
If this is your dog, or you know whose dog this is, reach out to local lost pet networks and shelters. SF Animal Care & Control is always a good place to file a lost pet report. Check Nextdoor, check local vet offices, put up flyers.
And for everyone else: this is your periodic reminder that San Francisco's streets at midnight are no place for an unchipped, collarless dog. Love your pets. Tag your pets. Chip your pets. It's not regulation we're asking for — it's just common sense.
