The Mill has started a $100,000 GoFundMe to repair fire damage and is hunting for a temporary kitchen to keep its wholesale bread business alive while the Divisadero location is rebuilt.

The Mill, the Divisadero café and bread bakery damaged by an overnight fire Monday, has launched a GoFundMe with a $100,000 goal to pay for repairs and is searching for a temporary kitchen to keep its wholesale bread business running.

As of Tuesday morning, the campaign had raised more than $25,000. Owner and baker Josey Baker told Gazetteer SF the timeline for rebuilding the rear kitchen and bakery at 736 Divisadero is “still unclear.” He is actively looking for a temporary space to continue baking for wholesale clients—including Bi-Rite, Berkeley Bowl, and Mollie Stone’s—so he can retain his staff while the original location is repaired.

“This was not part of the plan and it’s very sad and it’s going to involve a lot of work,” Baker said. “But I’m also so grounded by the way that so many people are just telling us that they care.”

The fire, which broke out around 3:20 a.m. on June 29, was confined to the rear kitchen and bakery area of the 13‑year‑old NoPa anchor. No one was injured. The San Francisco Fire Department determined the cause was accidental, related to an appliance.

The Mill is closed indefinitely, marking the second Divisadero business shuttered by fire in under three weeks, after Che Fico’s chimney‑flue fire earlier this month. Baker said he hopes to return “more grateful and better than ever,” but for now the path forward runs through a crowdfunding campaign and a scramble for interim production space.
