The free pop-up roller rink that's run all summer skates its last three nights this weekend, and it's going out in costume. Roller Disco Daze closes a month-long run in San Rafael Friday, Aug. 14 through Sunday, Aug. 16 under a banner theme, "Oh the Horror!" Friday leans goth ("Stop, Goth & Roll"), Saturday turns undead ("Zombie Night: Skate of the Dead"), and Sunday sends it off with "A Scary Good Skate Night," per SFGATE.

Doors are open noon to 10 p.m. all three days, with last entry at 9:30. The floor sits on Lagoon Island — the strip of ground ringed by the lagoon inside the county fairgrounds; set your maps app to 10 Avenue of the Flags. Skating under the disco ball is free; rentals run $5 on-site, so bring your own pair and it costs nothing. Expect a live DJ after dark, plus lawn games, food, and a giant inflatable skate for the photo. All ages, all skill levels.

Two things a regular would flag first. Everyone signs a waiver, and under-18s need a parent or guardian to sign it — plan for an adult if you're dropping kids. And the one that bites on a costume weekend: floor-length costumes aren't allowed on the rink for safety, so the full grim-reaper cloak stays on the grass. Keep it skate-friendly and above the ankle.

Getting there means driving — this is the North Bay, there's parking on-site, and no clean transit shortcut; SMART's Marin Civic Center station is the nearest stop for the carless.

If you've got two hours: go Saturday for Zombie Night, be on the floor before the DJ set peaks, rent skates, keep the costume short. It's free, it's the last weekend, and it won't be back until next summer.
