SFMOMA and the San Francisco Public Library are hosting a free Family Studio art event inspired by illustrator Nidhi Chanani this Saturday, August 16, featuring an experimental painting project and a book reading.

This Saturday, August 16, families can engage in a free, collaborative art project at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, co-hosted with the San Francisco Public Library. Inspired by celebrated author and illustrator Nidhi Chanani, the Family Studio offers an experimental painting project and a special story time.

The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Floor 2, in the Koret Education Center at SFMOMA, located at 151 3rd Street, San Francisco. Admission to the Family Studio activities is entirely free, making it an accessible option for a creative weekend outing. An SFPL librarian will read from Chanani’s new book, Quiet Karima, at 11 a.m., offering a chance to dive into her storytelling.

Nidhi Chanani is known for her award-winning graphic novels like Pashmina and Jukebox, as well as picture books such as I Will Be Fierce and Quiet Karima. Her work often encourages creativity and celebrates small artistic wins, a philosophy reflected in this drop-in studio where art can't be rushed.
