Sergio Monleón and Emily Sarlatte of La Marcha expand their Berkeley Wine Shop into a wine bar and vinyl lounge, with a soft open July 1 and grand opening the weekend of July 24.
Mile Limit, the wine bar and vinyl lounge expansion of Berkeley Wine Shop, soft opened July 1 and will hold its grand opening the weekend of July 24 at 2040 San Pablo Ave. in Berkeley, according to Berkeleyside.
The project comes from Sergio Monleón and Emily Sarlatte, the operators behind Berkeley's Spanish restaurant La Marcha. Mile Limit adds wines by the glass, a food program, and DJs spinning records to the existing wine shop footprint. Monleón shared the opening menu with Berkeleyside: oysters with Shared Cultures' miso-citrus mignonette, crudo with citrus and chili oil, burrata with seasonal fruit and saba, anchovy butter toast, pâté, sardines, cheeseboards, housemade tins, and escabeches. Fridays will feature a $1 oyster happy hour.
No separate business registration under the "Mile Limit" name appeared in a city records search, suggesting the lounge is operating under the wine shop's existing license. Seat count and wine pricing were not confirmed ahead of publication.
For Monleón and Sarlatte, the format — retail wine shop converting to a licensed drinking room at the same address — limits the capital exposure of a standalone opening while extending Berkeley Wine Shop's existing customer relationship from bottle to glass.
