Fog City Flea Trading Post closes its Mission location at 150 Valencia St after nine months, with owner citing insufficient community support as vendors clear out by July's end.

Fog City Flea Trading Post is vacating its sprawling two-story location at 150 Valencia St., closing the Mission outpost after nine months in business. Vendors received notice last week via email from owner James Morelos, with the space to be cleared by the end of July.

"Despite all our efforts, the community hasn't shown up as we hoped," Morelos wrote in the email obtained by Gazetteer SF. "It's disappointing, but we view this simply as a sign that it's not what the community wants or needs."

The Mission store opened last September in the former space of vintage market Stuff, which closed in February 2024. At 17,000 square feet across two floors, it was more than quadruple the size of Fog City Flea's original Ferry Building location. When the Valencia location launched, Morelos told Mission Local the commitment to the space was "long."

During a recent visit, most vendor booths remained occupied, though some like Happy French Gang had already moved out ahead of the shutdown. In his email, Morelos characterized the shop as "a great big test for a neighborhood store" that ultimately didn't pan out, adding that Fog City's focus must shift to "locations that are an escape from the norm of people's daily lives."

The closure comes as the Mission District continues its churn of retail spaces. The neighborhood logged 43 eviction notices in the last 90 days and 2,317 311 requests in the past week. Nearby Valencia Street has seen several alteration permits filed recently, including a $30,000 project at 524 Valencia St. and a $100,458 renovation at 1098 Valencia St.

Fog City Flea's flagship Ferry Building store, originally slated to reopen in May, is now expected in July. The email to vendors didn't specify whether Mission sellers would have spots at the Ferry Building location. Morelos did not respond to Gazetteer's request for comment.
