A California ABC application taken August 21 names the rooftop restaurant coming to Presidio Bay's "office resort" at 88 Spear St. — Alto 88 — and its operating entity, Please Spear, LLC.
The rooftop dining room planned for the top of The Spear finally has a name, and it surfaced not in a press release but in a liquor-license filing. On Friday, August 21, the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control took a new application (external source, opens in a new tab) for Alto 88 at 88 Spear St., filed by an entity called Please Spear, LLC, with a mailing address at One Sansome St., Suite 725.
The application bundles three permits: a Type 47 on-sale general license for a bona fide eating place, a Type 68 portable-bar permit, and a Type 58 caterer's permit. That combination is the tell. A Type 47 covers full spirits in a sit-down restaurant; the 68 and 58 are what a room needs to pour at large private functions and away from a fixed bar — the license architecture of a place built to host events as much as dinner. The filing lists Crescent Land Title Company as the escrow holder, the marker of a license moving through a transfer rather than being issued fresh.
The operator name points straight to the concept. Please Spear, LLC is the vehicle of PLEASE Management (external source, opens in a new tab), which runs Holbrook House and operates the Conservatory, its Financial District restaurant and gathering space that opened in 2023. Per KTVU, PLEASE is bringing that same work-into-weekend model to The Spear, with Californian, wood-fired cooking and an opening targeted for early 2027.
The address is the point. 88 Spear is the 13-story building that Presidio Bay Ventures, run by managing principal Cyrus Sanandaji, bought for $41 million in 2023 and is overhauling into what it bills as the country's first "office resort" — a $100 million project whose tower crane, installed in late 2025, was downtown's first since the pandemic. Arsicault Bakery and the coworking group Canopy have also signed on as tenants.
No entity named Please Spear, LLC or Alto 88 yet appears in San Francisco's business registry, consistent with a room still more than a year from service. The license is the first hard civic trace of the name — and a bet that the waterfront's office-resort experiment can carry a full bar to the roof.
