The 40th Annual AIDS Walk San Francisco returns to Robin Williams Meadow in Golden Gate Park on Sunday, July 19, 2026, offering free participation in the 5K fundraiser to support Bay Area HIV/AIDS organizations.
The day officially kicks off bright and early with the Red Ribbon Pancake Breakfast and registration opening at 8:00 a.m. (Note: The Pancake Breakfast is open to all fundraising participants; general walkers are not admitted). Pre-walk festivities are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., with the 5K walk itself beginning promptly at 10:30 a.m. Participants will follow a route that winds down JFK Drive before looping back to the meadow. A post-walk picnic is planned from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
This year’s event celebrates a significant milestone, having raised over $100 million for organizations across seven Bay Area counties since its inception in 1987. It continues to be the largest and most visible HIV/AIDS fundraising event in Northern California. While there's no fee to register and no fundraising minimum, participants are encouraged to raise money for the cause, with those collecting $1,000 or more earning "Star Walker" benefits.
Insider Tip: Plan on taking public transit. Event organizers strongly recommend using Muni, as no parking will be available directly adjacent to Robin Williams Meadow. Expect extensive road closures in Golden Gate Park from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., including John F. Kennedy Drive (between Transverse and 30th Avenue), JFK Promenade (between Kezar Drive and Transverse), Transverse Drive, and Bowling Green Drive. Standard Muni routes that serve Golden Gate Park include the 5 Fulton, 7 Haight/Noriega, 21 Hayes, 33 Ashbury/18th, 37 Corbett, 43 Masonic, 44 O'Shaughnessy, and N Judah. For any 2026-specific service adjustments, check sfmta.com or the AIDS Walk San Francisco FAQ transportation page closer to the event date.
If you have a couple of hours this Sunday, July 19, showing up for the pre-walk festivities and joining the walk for free is the move. You'll be part of a major community event supporting a vital cause, even if you can only make it for a portion of the morning.
