We love these moments because they cut through the usual doom-and-gloom news cycle and remind us that San Francisco is still, at its core, a city full of people who know how to have a good time. Despite the budget deficits, the bureaucratic circus at City Hall, and whatever fresh transit meltdown BART has cooked up for us, the weekends remain undefeated.
The weather's cooperating (for now — this is San Francisco, so give it 45 minutes), and the city has no shortage of things to do if you're willing to step outside. Dolores Park will be packed. The farmers markets will be thriving. Somebody somewhere in the Mission is firing up a grill that smells unreasonably good.
Here's what we think about when we see the city come alive on weekends: this is what we're fighting to protect. Every dollar the city wastes on failed programs or bloated administrative overhead is a dollar that could go toward keeping parks clean, streets safe, and small businesses open — the stuff that actually makes weekends in SF worth having.
So whether you're hiking Lands End, grabbing dim sum in the Richmond, catching a Giants game, or simply doing absolutely nothing at a coffee shop in Hayes Valley, enjoy it. You've earned it. The city's problems will still be there on Monday — and trust us, we'll be covering them.
Drop your weekend plans in the comments. We're nosy and we're not sorry about it. 🍸
