The Bay Area's weekday hiking group for laid-off workers heads into Golden Gate Park on June 29 — 6.8 miles, mostly flat, dogs welcome, and no car required.
The (un)PTO hiking group — which has been organizing Monday morning walks for Bay Area workers between jobs since early spring — is coming into the city this week for what's shaping up to be its most accessible outing yet.
Monday, June 29, 10:30am. Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. Free; RSVP at partiful.com for meeting-point details.
The route is a 6.8-mile loop through the park, with about 360 feet of gain — flat by Bay Area standards, estimated at 2.5 to 3 hours. Expect Stow Lake, wooded paths, redwood groves, and whatever the fog is doing. On-leash dogs are welcome. The organizers ask everyone to be confident holding a steady group pace over the distance.
Unlike most (un)PTO dates, which have landed in Marin, the Oakland hills, or out near Montara, this one is fully Muni-accessible: the N-Judah drops you at 9th and Judah, the 5-Fulton runs along the north edge of the park, and the 7 stops on Haight. The group's Partiful page says flat out: "carpool or take public trans plz." The exact meeting spot is gated behind an RSVP, so do that first. As of Saturday, 81 people had confirmed going and another 76 were sitting in "interested" or "maybe." Dress in layers — fog is not optional in the park.
