San Francisco's independent comedy scene is thriving, and it's one of the few things around here that doesn't cost a small fortune just to show up.

Two shows worth your weeknight energy:

Mirthquake is running a free live comedy night in the Richmond with $5 drinks. That's a full evening of entertainment for less than a single cocktail at most Mission bars. RSVP to lock your spot, and bring your 21+ ID.

Then there's Rush Hour Comedy Night at The Function, featuring some of SF's best Black and Asian comedians. Also free. Also RSVP-required.

A handful of comedians and venue operators just did it: created something, kept prices at zero or close to it, and let the audience decide if it's worth attending. It's entrepreneurial. It's accessible.

If you're tired of the doom-scrolling and the general malaise, get off the couch and go laugh at something.

RSVP for both. Tip your comedians. Enjoy your $5 drink.
