Motown on Mondays at Madrone Art Bar has run every week since April 2009 — free before 8 PM, $5 after, 21+ with ID. Arrive at 7 on July 20 to skip the cover and stake your spot before the floor fills.

Motown on Mondays lands at Madrone Art Bar this Monday, July 20 — doors at 4 PM, music at 7 PM, free entry until 8 PM, then $5 at the door. Bar runs until 2 AM. It's 21+ with valid ID.

Show up at 7 and you have a free hour to find your spot before the cover kicks in and the floor fills. Madrone's listing describes the format as "originals, exclusive remixes and close relatives of your favorite Motown songs" — soul and funk that orbits the catalog without being a strict oldies set.

The night has been running every Monday since April 10, 2009, when Donovan Hall (DJ Gordo Cabeza) launched it as a solo tribute to the soul records of his childhood. DJ Timoteo Gigante (Tim Ryan) joined about eight months later; The Captain Hat (Malachi Pearson) came after that, per Hoodline. The franchise has since expanded to 50-plus cities worldwide, per MINTED SF. Hall to SF Weekly: "It's home, it's where it all started for us. When you find a good home there's no need to leave."

One thing to check: Madrone occasionally closes for private bookings. Confirm at madroneartbar.com the week of July 20 before you plan around it.
