Sundays at 11am, the paved area near 6th Avenue and Fulton in Golden Gate Park fills up with swing dancers doing Lindy Hop to live or recorded jazz. Free to attend, all ages, no partner required. Closest BART is Civic Center — from there it's a 20-minute walk west through the Panhandle, or catch the 5 or 5R bus to Fulton and 6th.

This is one of the longer-running outdoor dance gatherings in the city, and it operates on a drop-in model: beginners rotate through, experienced dancers lead, and nobody is checking credentials at the perimeter. The floor is concrete and mostly shaded, which matters once summer fog burns off. There's usually a free beginner lesson in the first hour before open dancing starts.

Practical note: the nearby parking on Fulton fills early on Sundays. Street parking on 7th Avenue a block south is typically easier. Bring layers — the park runs cold even when the rest of the city doesn't. No food vendors on-site, but the Haight is a five-minute walk east if you need coffee before committing to anything.

If you've got two hours: catch the beginner lesson at 11, dance until noon, then walk the Panhandle back toward the Haight.
