Shea Langeliers hit his 20th home run of the season, a 433-foot solo shot in the fifth inning, and the Oakland Athletics backed a strong start from J.T. Ginn to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-1 on Wednesday night, snapping a four-game losing streak.

The victory also ended the Dodgers' six-game win streak and kept the A's within three games of both the AL West lead and the final Wild Card spot, improving their record to 41-46.

Langeliers' milestone homer came off Dodgers reliever Charlie Barnes and sparked a three-run rally that broke the game open. It marked his fourth consecutive season with at least 20 home runs, making him the first A's player to accomplish that feat since Khris Davis did it from 2016-2019.

"Swing at strikes," Langeliers said when asked about his approach.

Ginn (7-4) earned the win with six innings of one-run ball, allowing three hits while striking out four and walking five. The right-hander lowered his season ERA to 3.04 and showed the composure that has marked his improvement over last season.

"Obviously, five walks, you never want to see that, you try to attack the zone as much as possible," Ginn said. "But I made big pitches when I had to."

Manager Mark Kotsay praised his young pitcher's growth. "If you look at J.T. this year vs. last year, that game would have easily spiraled for him. He's a young man that has really learned how to use his arsenal effectively. I couldn't be more proud of the way he went out tonight."

The Dodgers employed a bullpen game strategy, using opener Jack Dreyer before turning to newly-called-up Charlie Barnes as the primary pitcher for seven innings. Manager Dave Roberts called it a planned "punt" to save the bullpen for their upcoming series.

"The primary goal was for him to save the bullpen for the upcoming series and get the Dodgers through the final game of this series," Roberts explained.

The A's offense was balanced throughout, with five players recording two hits each: Langeliers, Nick Kurtz, Jonah Heim, Joshua Kuroda-Grauer, and Henry Bolte. Heim also homered and drove in two runs.

"He's obviously been the catalyst of our offense," Kotsay said of Langeliers.

The win provided a momentum boost for a team that had been struggling. "Over the course of 162 games, there's going to be a bunch of momentum swings," Langeliers said. "I think this game can get us back on the right track."

The A's return home to face the Miami Marlins on Thursday night, looking to build on their first win since June 26.
