Mosswood Meltdown takes over Oakland's Mosswood Park this weekend. Here's your guide to getting there, dealing with parking, and making the most of the festival atmosphere.

Oakland’s Mosswood Meltdown kicks off this weekend, Friday, July 17, through Sunday, July 19, at Mosswood Park (3612 Webster St.). If you’re planning to head to the festival, be prepared for robust crowds and limited options for driving and parking. The pre-party on Friday starts at 4 p.m., with the main festival running from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Your best bet for getting there is public transportation. The festival organizers strongly recommend using it, and for good reason: vehicular traffic and parking will be a significant challenge. The MacArthur BART station is conveniently located just two blocks east along MacArthur Boulevard from the park entrance on West MacArthur Blvd., making it the most direct and stress-free option.

Attempting to drive and find street parking around Mosswood Park is a risky endeavor. Even if you manage to find a spot, limited parking availability means you’ll be competing with locals and potentially risk towing or tickets. The adjacent Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center, with its main hospital at 3600 Broadway and the Mosswood Medical Office Building at 3505 Broadway, also has a significant parking presence, including an eight-story garage at 3510 Broadway. However, these facilities are for patients and staff, and attempting to use their parking for festival access is not advised; parking fees may apply, and spots are not intended for festival-goers.

"There is limited parking available on adjacent streets. We strongly recommend you use public transportation, walk or bike to Mosswood Park," states the official festival FAQ. Heed this advice. Stick to public transit, enjoy the atmosphere on the street as you approach, and make a plan for getting there and back that doesn't involve circling for a parking spot.

If you’re only stopping by the perimeter to soak in some of the festival energy, the area around Mosswood Park will be lively, but don't count on a clear view of the stage from outside the gates, and absolutely don't rely on finding easy parking. Plan for a stress-free experience by taking BART.
