Yesterday's Bomba Estéreo show drew a massive crowd to the free festival at 19th & Sloat. The rest of the season is stacked — and the Violent Femmes lottery is open right now.
Yesterday's Bomba Estéreo set at Stern Grove drew one of the bigger crowds the free festival has seen this season, with r/sanfrancisco filling up with the kind of "San Francisco at its best" dispatches that tend to follow a genuinely great afternoon in the grove. The show was sold out via the lottery system. If you didn't make it, there's still a path in — but the windows are tight.
What's left and how to enter:
The Violent Femmes lottery (August 2, with Tune-Yards) opened June 21 — you have until June 28 to enter at sterngrove.org. That's the most actionable window right now. Patti LaBelle (August 9, with Destani Wolf) lottery opens this Sunday, June 28. Public Enemy (August 15, with LaRussell) lottery opens July 4; tables are still available to buy outright. Al Green (August 16, with Goapele) lottery opens July 5.
The lottery is free, 100% random, and you can request up to four tickets. If you don't win, Stern Grove also runs Community Box Office distributions — 1,500 in-person tickets per show, first-come-first-served at a designated SF location before each concert.
The practical note: Shows are Sundays at 2 p.m. at Sigmund Stern Grove, 19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard. No BART stops nearby — the 23, 28, and 18 Muni lines run close. Go early; the grove fills fast and the good blanket spots go by noon.
