This is one of the larger literary street festivals on the West Coast, drawing authors across fiction, nonfiction, and genre, with booths from independent presses alongside the big publishers. Food trucks cluster near the park's south end. The panel tents fill fast — arrive 15 minutes early for anything headlined.

Practical note: BART to Downtown Berkeley drops you half a block away. Do not drive. Street parking near Civic Center on a festival weekend is a known trap. If you're coming from SF, the Richmond BART line runs direct and the walk from the station is under five minutes.

If you've got two hours: skip the main stage browsing, go straight to one mid-size panel you actually care about, then walk the indie press tables on your way out. That's where the unusual finds are.
