RefuseRefuseSF mobilized 400 volunteers across 32 San Francisco sites last weekend, removing more than 430 bags of litter — part of a cumulative effort the group says has now cleared over 1.4 million gallons of refuse since its founding.

Thirty-two cleanup events fanned out across San Francisco last weekend — 400 volunteers working gutters, side streets, and sidewalks from one end of the city to the other, hauling off more than 430 bags of litter, according to a post by RefuseRefuseSF on r/sanfrancisco.

The group, founded by Vince Yuen, has been at this steadily. As of June 2026, its press kit counted 6,645 total cleanups and more than 1.4 million gallons of refuse collected. Recent events have drawn volunteers from Apple's Union Square store, the DOJ Antitrust Division, and neighborhood regulars without corporate backing.

The Mission District alone logged 2,192 311 service requests in the last seven days.

After a similar weekend push, the group's Instagram put the work plainly: "It's spotless for now, but the litter will return, and so will we."
